First launched in 1990, the Ford Explorer is 30 years old this year and is in its sixth generation; over the years, it has grown by leaps and bounds, but is coming back even stronger and fitter in 2020. This 5-door, 7- or 8-passenger mid-size SUV is a family sport utility vehicle ready for the great adventure on the roads of Quebec, Canada and the United States, so versatile, clever and efficient is it.

Réjean Laporte et Fils in Saint-Norbert in Lanaudière, near Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon, Saint-Jean-de-Matha, Berthierville and a few minutes from Joliette, tells you about its 2020 Ford Explorer.
The 2020 Ford Explorer: the choice of Quebec families

We know it well, we've been with it for 30 years now and we know that it's an absolute sure thing in the mid-size SUV market; no other SUV has had such longevity.

Not long ago, the Explorer could still count on a naturally aspirated V6 engine as its base powerplant. In 2020, a more powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine will be used, producing 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, compared to 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque in the old model.

Even more interesting for 2020 is the hybrid version of the Explorer. Looking like the Explorer Sport, the 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid is primarily aimed at consumers who would like to outrun their gas station refueling, thanks to a 3.3-liter V6 engine, paired with an electric motor, providing a combined 318 horsepower with a 10-speed automatic transmission; this one linked to an intelligent all-wheel drive.

The blue oval automaker is also announcing the 2020 Ford Explorer ST, which will necessarily be a sporty model, but will also be more powerful than the two previous models with a twin-turbocharged Ecoboost V6 engine with 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, teamed with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This version will also have 20- or 21-inch wheels, bigger brakes and larger electronics with innovative features.

But if the 2020 Ford Explorer gets a facelift under the hood, its interior is not without its share of upgrades, since in the ST version, for example, you'll be treated to premium leather seats, a multi-functional dashboard, a huge touch screen and innovative technological features, including the Ford Co-Pilot 360 package. The latter includes several driver assistance technologies, such as blind spot warning, lane keeping and pre-collision assistance with automatic emergency braking.

All in all, the 2020 Ford is even more complete, more diverse and offers a spacious and ultra-comfortable interior, rear legroom and plenty of storage space. With a towing capacity of up to 5,600 pounds or 2,540 kg, the 2020 Explorer is powerful and can take you far, far away on an adventure. With its impressive handling, breathtaking dashboard, downright fabulous seats and attractive looks, the Ford SUV is in great shape and is coming back in a big way in 2020.
